Wood County Health District Licensing Council
In November 2001, the Ohio Legislature passed Substitute Senate Bill 136. It was signed into law by the governor as an emergency act and became effective immediately in late November. Part of that bill required health districts to create a Health District Licensing Council. Members of the Council are appointed by the same people that appoint Board of Health members. In Wood County, that is the District Advisory Council. The Licensing Council consists of representatives of each of the programs that the health district licenses. In Wood County, those programs are:
- food service operations
- retail food establishments
- swimming pools and spas
- campgrounds
- tattoo and body piercing establishments
Members must be a resident of Wood County and own or operate a business in the program area they represent. The Council selects one of its members to serve on the Board of Health. An alternate is also selected to avoid conflicts of interest in issues voted on by the Board. The Environmental Health Director serves as the Secretary for the Council.
Members meet at least annually to review and comment on proposed license fee changes and other program issues.
