Wood County Recorder
Thank you for visiting the website of the Wood County Recorder. Here you will find many useful resources and information about the functions and requirements of the office. So please take a minute and browse the site to learn about this important county office.
Over the last year there have been some significant law changes that affect documents recorded in the office. First, Veteran’s Discharges are no longer a public record. They are still recorded in the office but only an “authorized party” (i.e. the veteran, an heir, a funeral director, the veteran’s service officer, etc.) are allowed to look at or receive copies of the unredacted document. Please see Soldier Discharges for a complete explanation of who is authorized and what exactly can be obtained from our office. A law that took affect July 1, 2009 that affects documents recorded in the office was a standardization law. This law requires that all documents recorded in the office follow certain guidelines. One of the new guidelines is that all documents require a 3” blank margin on the top of the first page. This margin is for the sole use of the Recorder, Auditor, and Engineer and their respective stamps. These new standards will enable the office to not only save a nice legible copy but to also provide nice copies for years to come. Please see the Document Requirements for a complete listing of all requirements set forth in the new law. Also, please check back periodically to our website for any future law changes that will affect documents recorded in this office.
Another change that has taken affect in the office is the removal of document images from the website. The Online Search Indexes of the documents are still available on this website, but after careful consideration the images have been removed. This was due to the fact that there is personal information (social security numbers, etc.) found on these documents that in the wrong hands can be devastating to the individual. We are working full force to get this information redacted from the images and when this task is completed another review will be undertaken to see if the images should be put back on line or not. Your understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated.
As always the staff in the office is here to assist you in any way they can. So if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact a friendly, knowledgable staff member or me directly at jbaumgardner@co.wood.oh.us.
Thank you,
